The Force, what is it? |
In this part of website I will try to
explain general beliefs of "modern Jedi" in real world. Of
course, as stated in the article, it's only my perspective, so please,
accept it. At least you can make picture of my opinions to these things.
What is the
Force?
At the beginning, I would like to say that this lecture
is my point of view and I don't want to force anybody to have the same
opinion as me. Second thing is, that if somebody finds this lecture
offensive for some reasons, I'm sorry for this, it wasn't my intention,
when I started writing this article.
The Force in Star war movies
Your first thoughts may say "Why is she referring
about the Force in the movies? This isn't a roleplay site!"
But patience, please, let me explain it.
George Lucas presents "his" Force as an field
of energy, which is in everything and everywhere. The force is energy,
which influences a lot of things. The Force is also an energy which
is in everyone, but only a few can feel it and a little part of living
beings can use it.
Jedi in the movie uses it for good intentions, to help
others. The Force gained him/her "special abilities"
which included telekinesis and "mind trick" for example. Jedi
believes that this Force should be used only for knowledge, not for
attacking.
So, this was short summary of The Force from SW movies. Now I will continue
talking about the Force, as I see it in reality and what has the Force
in common with the Force in the movie.
The Force in real world
So, what is the Force in reality? There are a lot of points
of view on this matter. Somebody see it as a "ki",
somebody see it as "magick" (from occult point of
view). There can be a lot of explanation for this. But - the question
is: Which name is right?
Answer is Everything but nothing of this.
The Force simply IS. No matter how people call it. No matter
how people chose to learn about it and use it. The Force itself is neutral
energy, the Force is in Balance, there's no "good/light" Force
and also there's no "bad/dark" Force. Only people decide how
it is used. If it is for "good" intentions or "bad".
We, as Light Jedi, inspired with Jedi from movies (but not like Jedi
in the movies), decided that Jedi Code is basic for us, and we try to
act in "Light" way in real world. We try to help people, we
want to learn and gain knowledge. We don't want to attack, we only defend
ourselves.
The Force is around us and inside us every minute, everytime we live
and breathe. If you want, you can feel it around you, just try to close
your eyes somewhere, when you have calm mind. Concentrate on trees,
flowers, to other people. It can be everything. you will feel it.
Can we have "special abilities"
like Jedi from movie in real world, or it's only a fiction?
The answer, in my opinion, is "yes". BUT - It
requires some special talents, which ARE in people, and me, I believe,
that these "powers" are in everybody, but people
aren't able to feel it.
In Eastern cultures there are monks which are able to do almost "miracles".
I believe that if somebody is devoted to learn control these "hidden
powers" (the Force) he/she can do it with long and difficult
training. Learn to control yourself and concentrate is the beginning...
Why to learn about the Force?
Well, I think only you, for yourself know the reason,
why you started with learning about the Force. Everyone who started
with this long, and maybe neverending path, knows answer for himself/herself.
Jedi Code, my perspective |
Well, Jedi Code seems to be very simple, and clear to everyone. But
I have opinion that this isn't much. As the Code is simple, it's also
not very perfect. I think almost everybody knows it, but for sure I
will put the whole Code here:
There is no Emotion, there
is Peace
There is no Ignorance, there is Knowledge
There is no Passion, there is Serenity
There is no Death, there is the Force
I will try to explain my opinions on every
line of the Code, how I take it and understand it.
:
There is no Emotion, there is Peace
There's no Emotion ... well. Look at today people. Do you think that
human beings are able to be without emotions? And do you think that
we would be still humans, if we get rid of emotions? I think not. I
agree that people should learn to control their emotions, especially
"bad" ones - like anger, impatience .. I guess everybody can
make some thoughts about at least one "bad" emotion.
What about love? Love is the strongest emotion human beings hold (In
my opinion, of course) I know that this Code is for movie Jedi, but
in reality I really don't think that someone is able to leave his/her
love away just because the Code says so. Of course, you may disagree
with me, there can be a few exceptions of this, but I guess only a few.
What about friendship? Friendship is emotion as well.
What about controled enthusiasm? Me, personally, without this I wouldn't
be able to do things in way I'm doing.
Emotions may help people in "good" way, as well
as they can help them in "bad" ways.
I agree there should be "peace" when there's needed calm decision,
without emotions. If you are General in the war, you are sending soldiers
to war and there's possibility that some of men who are sent to war
will never see their families again. So, in fact, General in war should
lack emotions like "friendship" and so.
I know I'm thinking about it a lot and it may seem like
I don't show any respect to Jedi Code, but I would say it in different
words. I respect the Code as a Code, with its errors and unspoken things.
Every Code has its unspoken words.
There is no Ignorance, there is Knowledge
I like this line more than the first one, because this one is more real
than first. I agree people shouldn't make prejudices. And tell me -
what is first thing which often causes prejudices? Ignorance. People
judge others often without knowing them. They often judge from some
gossip someone told them. Is this sign of ignorance? In my opinion -
yes.
Knowledge can be seen from more than one perspective.
When you learn something (at school, some martial arts, ...), you gain
knowledge. You become stronger with yourself. You reduce ignorance within
yourself as well.
Other perspective of knowledge is to do something new - for example
when you are invited to bungee jumping and you try it, you have gained
some kind of knowledge. No matter what knowledge it is. A lot of people
are afraid to try something new (I must admit that I'm sometimes as
well ... ) and they aren't able to get over this fear. So, in fact,
they will have some amount of ignorance in this way.
But - to your next potential question I see in your
eyes while you are reading my words: Is important to "know
everything" or "try to learn as much as possible?"
My answer is that human beings aren't able to know "everything",
so it's important to learn as much as possible. But of course, the cost
matters, be careful of this. You must be considerate to others when
you are seeking knowledge.
Last lines of Jedi code are more less to understand
- there can be many explanations for these lines. As I said, Jedi code
is very short and sometimes there may be some more possibilities how
to understand it.
But to the Code:
There is no Passion, there is Serenity
I think of this line as very similar as it was in There's no Emotion,
there's Peace. Tell me, isn't Passion a kind of emotion? I think it
is. I agree that Jedi should be in peace and serene when it's required,
when he/she is making some important decisions. I think I have said
a lot about this in first line of the Code, but of course, if anybody
has some questions to me, ask. I will add my replies here, under this
line of Code.
There is no Death, there is the Force
This line is interesting. It says there's no Death there's the Force.
How I understand it?
Well, because I believe in reincarnation I believe that the death isn't
end but a new beginning. So, for me this line represents a new beginning
for somebody who has died. As the Force is some kind of energy and in
fact I believe human beings are part of this energy, and as it's known
from physics, the energy itself can be changed, but can't never be away
itself. The amount of energies must be retained.
So, in fact, our "spiritual self" is immortal and
goes to next physical body.
In short sentence: The death isn't the end, but it's new beginning.
Please accept this explanation of this
line of the Code only as my belief and as my opinion, I meant no harm
to anybody who have different look at it. .
May the Force be with you!

called Jedi Realism.)
