There is not much to tell about the youth of Ranzen. Born and raised before the uprising Galactic Civil War, he was one of many who was spared from the utter destruction of his homeworld of Alderaan. His parents were commercial traders and made their living doing business offworld. Ranzen was at the age of fifteen prior to debarking from their doomed world on another trade route. The sudden surprise from the loss of their home when they returned, forced him and his parents to re-settle on several worlds. The Empire's grasp on the Core Worlds was tight, and the calls of resistance was heard. His parents joined the Rebellion, and he followed suit.

Ranzen was then raised around the atmosphere of the Alliance. He learned the evils the Empire was doing, and did his part in trying to do what is right to aid his Rebel friends as a youth. During this time, his parents discovered unusual skills developing within him. The sudden premonitions, the ability to react faster than usual, and the odd ability to move objects when a certain threat was in his way. It was then his parents discovered their son may possess the ability to use the Force, although it was raw and unskilled.

Years passed, and the Empire collapsed with the fall of the second Death Star on Endor. Ranzen's parents were killed during this battle when the Death Star's superlaser destroyed the Mon Calamari cruiser they served aboard. The same cruiser that Admiral Ackbar noticed and considered retreating, realising they could not fight against firepower of that magnitude. Ranzen was spared from the battle. He was left behind with the small remainder left on Sullust, in case the Rebel fleet retreated.

Now orphaned, Ranzen(also called Zen among his peers) decided to live the life of a smuggler and did successfully launch a carreer, following the footsteps of other smugglers, namely Han Solo. He purchased with his credits an old Firespray-class attack vessel, modified with superior weapons to defend his cargo, and named it Alderaan Sun,in tribute to his homeworld. His ship class is also famous due to a certain bounter hunter who had named his ship, Slave I.

Zen soon realized the Force brewing inside him was calling to be trained. Researching the Jedi from the past, he discovered the Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker had opened the Jedi Academy on Yavin 4. It was to his best interest that he would drop the lifestyle of a smuggler, and join the Academy to be trained in the ways of the Jedi.

At first, Luke Skywalker did not want to accept him, claiming that he was too old to begin the training. Ranzen was only 21 when he arrived on Yavin 4 and most of the students there were in their youth, ranging from eight to fifteen. At Zen's persistance, Skywalker finally did make an exception and accepted him into the Jedi Academy, knowing he would make a formidable Jedi. Ranzen had the heart to do good, being rooted with the Rebellion so many years.

After seven years, his training paid off. He accelerated among his peers and emerged as one of the earlier graduates of the Jedi Academy. He earned the rank of Jedi Knight after passing the many tests Jedi needed to endure. Skywalker then gave him the choice to either serve in the Academy, or take an assignment as a diplomat for the now prospering New Republic. He chose to take to the stars and was assigned to serve among the council on Ossus. A year later, he left his position and decided to come to Datooine, in aid to help out Master Atonai.

Ranzen is normally dressed as a fringer, ocassionally in smuggler clothes. He refuses to wear the traditional Jedi dress from the Old Republic, instead adopting a more modern look to blend with his peers. He is seen normally wearing a light spacer shirt under a heavy blue smuggler's jacket with yellow trim, brown trousers, with black heavy boots. His hair is usually tied back, with brown bangs hanging from the sides of his head. Zen usually wears gloves for better grip on his weapons. His DL-44 is strapped to his holster on his right leg, while the custom built lightsaber from his Academy days is clipped to his left hip on his utility belt.
